Two bus routes to detour around Capitol construction project

Two Metrobus routes will be detoured for a month due to construction of the visitor center at the U.S. Capitol.

Metrobus routes 96 and 97, which travel between RFK Stadium and Union Station will alter their routes due to underground utility work at East Capitol and Second streets, SE. Second Street will be converted from two-way to one-way southbound traffic beginning Tuesday evening, May 31st, at approximately 7 p.m. Metrobuses will not be able to travel north on Second Street from Independence Avenue to East Capitol on their way to RFK Stadium.

Due to other road security restrictions, the buses will travel from Union Station eastbound on Massachusetts Avenue and turn south on Fourth Street, NE, to East Capitol Street until two way traffic is restored to Second Street. Buses traveling westbound toward Union Station will continue on their current route.
