Metro To Open New Parking Garages at College Park and New Carrollton This Year


College Park Garage Opens June 25; New Carrollton Garage Opens October 29

Today, the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority’s (Metro) Board Planning, Development, Engineering and Construction Committee received a final status update on the opening of the new College Park parking structure on the Green Line which will open June 25, and the new, New Carrollton parking structure on the Orange Line which will open on October 29.

"Additional parking at these stations in Prince George’s County will make Metrorail more user-friendly and will allow even more individuals to take advantage of public transit. After all, we want people to park their cars and use public transit. These new parking facilities will allow them to do just that,"said Metro Board Member Charles Deegan.

The College Park parking structure, which is within budget and ahead of schedule, is a six-level parking structure with 1,345 spaces. The parking structure is located over the original Kiss & Ride surface lot. The construction of the new parking structure is budgeted at $17.3 million.

The New Carrollton parking structure, also within budget and ahead of schedule is an eight-level parking structure with 1,850 spaces. The parking structure is located adjacent to the existing parking structure. The construction of this new parking structure is budgeted at $22.6 million.

Funding for the construction of these parking structure came from bond proceeds, temporary parking funds, and parking surcharges.
