Metro welcomes independent reviews

DC Councilmember Schwartz has invited Metro to testify at a "Public Hearing to Explore the Issues Regarding the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority’s Contracting, Personnel, Maintenance, MetroAccess, Management and Expenditure Practices" before the DC Public Works and the Environment Committee.

In addition, Congressman Tom Davis told the media that he would like to hold a House Government Reform Subcommittee hearing as well, most likely in July.

As we have said repeatedly, Metro welcomes outside reviews and scrutiny. We are always open to suggestions for how we can improve and do better. In fact, the GAO has reviewed us in the past and is currently involved in a review as part of the discussion of additional federal funding for Metro. If Congress wants the GAO to expand the scope of its current review, Metro will fully cooperate and work with them. Metro has critical needs for additional funding and welcomes any reviews and recommendations that further enhance our performance and accountability.

We look forward to working with the DC Public Works and the Environment Committee, the GAO and the Congress as we discuss Metro issues.
