Metrobus service changes in the District of Columbia begin June 26

Several service changes on Metrobus will be implemented on four lines in the District of Columbia beginning June 26. The changes are in response to customer requests and will eliminate overcrowding on some routes, shorten passenger waits between trips on other routes, and improve transfer connections between buses and trains. East Capitol Street-Cardozo Line, Routes 96, 97: Additional recovery time will be scheduled at the end of each weekday trip so that when buses run late due to the current detours near the U.S. Capitol, they will be able to leave on time for their next trips. This will improve service reliability until streets are reopened. In order to accommodate the additional recovery time, the morning and evening peak period headways will increased slightly to every 18 to 20 minutes on Route 96 and every 11 to 15 minutes on Route 97, and the off-peak headway will increase to every 25 to 40 minutes.

Glover Park-Dupont Circle Line, Route D2: Weekday running times will be changed to reflect current traffic conditions to improve service reliability. The morning and evening peak period headways will increase from every nine minutes to every 10 minutes. The Friday night headway after 1 a.m. will increase to every 37 to 38 minutes. The Saturday night trip leaving Dupont Circle at 3 a.m. will change to leave at 2:50 a.m. and a new trip will leave at 3:23 a.m.

16th Street-Potomac Park Line, Route S1: In the evening peak period, buses will run every 15 minutes instead of every 10 minutes in order to coordinate with Route 80. New S1 trips will be scheduled to leave Virginia Avenue and E Street NW at 3:58 p.m. and 6:20 p.m.

16th Street Line, Routes S2, S4: Four southbound morning peak period trips will be shortened to end at McPherson Square instead of Federal Triangle. Four northbound afternoon peak period S2 trips that end at 16th and Colorado streets will be discontinued, but five new northbound S4 trips to Silver Spring Metrorail station will be scheduled to reduce overcrowding. Other trip times will be adjusted accordingly.
