Metrobus service changes in Virginia begin June 26

Several service changes on Metrobus will be implemented on 17 lines in Virginia beginning June 26. The changes are in response to customer requests and will eliminate overcrowding on some routes, shorten passenger waits between trips on other routes, and improve transfer connections between buses and trains.

Lee Highway Line, Routes 3A, B, E: With the recent installation of a traffic signal at Lee Highway and Old Dominion Drive/Wakefield Street, westbound buses will return to their former route via Lee Highway between Lorcom Lane and Old Dominion Drive. After serving the stop on Lee Highway and Lorcom Lane, westbound buses will continue on Lee Highway, then go left on Old Dominion Drive (opposite Wakefield Street), bear left on Lee Highway, and continue present routes to Annandale, West Falls Church-VT/UVA and East Falls Church Metrorail stations. Lee Highway-Farragut Square Line, Route 3Y: With the recent installation of a traffic signal at Lee Highway and Old Dominion Drive/Wakefield Street, westbound buses will be rerouted via Lee Highway between Lorcom Lane and Old Dominion Drive. After serving the stop on Lee Highway and Lorcom Lane, westbound buses will continue on Lee Highway, turn left onto Old Dominion Drive (opposite Wakefield Street), and bear left on Lee Highway to the terminal stand west of Old Dominion Drive.

Pershing Drive-Arlington Boulevard Line, Routes 4B, H: Saturday service will be rescheduled for better schedule adherence. Trips between 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. will be adjusted to arrive and leave Rosslyn Metrorail station every 32 to 33 minutes instead of every 30 mintues.

The order of westbound trips will be changed so that the first trip leaving the Rosslyn Metrorail station at 6:55 a.m. will be a 4H instead of a 4B, the next trip leaving at 7:25 a.m. will be a 4B instead of 4H.

Columbia Pike Line, Routes 16 A, B, D, E, F, J: Weekday service will be adjusted as follows: A) Morning eastbound and westbound, and afternoon/evening westbound service will operate every six minutes instead of every five minutes, for a combined three minute peak frequency with Routes 16 G, H, K, W along Columbia Pike in Arlington.

B) Running times will be adjusted all day, primarily to improve schedule adherence on 16A 16D trips to and from Annandale.

C) To relieve early morning overcrowding on the first two 16A, B eastbound trips, the first 16A trip will leave at 4:35 a.m. instead of 4:43 a.m. Two eastbound 16B trips will be added leaving Culmore at 4:41 a.m. and 5 a.m. The trip leaving Culmore at 5:22 a.m. will leave at 5:11 a.m. These first four eastbound trips will be scheduled to arrive at the Pentagon every eight to 11 minutes between 5:09 a.m. and 5:39 a.m. to allow a five to six minute transfer to Blue or Yellow line trains.

D) To relieve overcrowding on the first westbound 16A trip to Annandale leaving the Pentagon, a new 16A trip will be added to leave the Pentagon at 5:42 a.m., seven minutes after the arrival of the first Blue Line train from downtown at 5:35 a.m.

E) Late evening service between 10 p.m. and 11:15 p.m. will be coordinated with the 16G along Columbia Pike by adjusting westbound 16 B, E trip times to leave the Pentagon as follows:

Other trip times throughout the day will be adjusted as a result of the new running times. Customers should consult the new schedule for revised trip times and transfer connections.

Columbia Heights West-Pentagon City Line, Route 16G: Weekday service will coordinate better with Blue Line trains at the Pentagon City Metrorail station and late evening 16B, E trips along Columbia Pike in Arlington:

A) A new eastbound trip will be added leaving Carlin Springs Road and Columbia Pike at 4:52 a.m., passing South Dinwiddie and 9th streets at 5 a.m., and arriving at Pentagon City at 5:15 a.m.

B) Late evening westbound service after 10 p.m. will be adjusted to leave Pentagon City station at 10:12 p.m., 10:32 p.m., 10:52 p.m. and 11:12 p.m. Burke Centre Line, Route 18R: The weekday schedule will be adjusted to incorporate the additional running time required for the reroute via Gambrill Road Park & Ride lot, which was effective May 9. Morning eastbound trips will pass time points east of Gambrill Road and arrive at Franconia-Springfield Metrorail station two minutes later than currently scheduled. Afternoon/evening westbound trips will continue to leave Franconia-Springfield at the currently scheduled times but will pass time points between Gambrill Road and Burke Centre three minutes later than currently scheduled. The eastbound time point at Hooes and Gambrill roads, and the westbound time point at Hooes Road and Olde Lantern Way will be changed to the Park & Ride lot in both directions.

McClean-Crystal City Line, Route 23A: At the request of Tysons Galleria management, buses will be rerouted to the east service roadway in both directions.

A) Westbound to Tysons-Westpark: Present route to the intersection of Galleria Drive and Tysons Boulevard (after crossing bridge from Tysons Corner Center), then continue Galleria Drive, right on first roadway to Tysons Galleria, continue east service roadway, cross Tysons Boulevard into Park Run Drive and continue present route to Tysons-Westpark Transit Station.

B) Eastbound to Ballston-MU station and Crystal City: Present route to the intersection of Park Run Drive and Tysons Boulevard, then cross Tysons Boulevard into Tysons Galleria east service roadway, continue east service roadway, left on Galleria Drive to Tysons Boulevard, and continue present route to Ballston-MU station and Crystal City.

The eastbound routing and two stops on Tysons Boulevard between Park Run Drive and Galleria Drive, as well as the current routing and stop on the west service roadway of Tysons Galleria will be discontinued. Eastbound trips will leave Tysons-Westpark two minutes later than currently scheduled due to the shorter routing between Park Run and Galleria Drive.

Annandale Line, Routes 29 E, G: Three southbound evening trips will leave the Pentagon three minutes later for better coordination with Metrorail trains from downtown. The 29E will leave at 6:48 p.m. The 29G will leave at 6:58 p.m. The 29E will leave at 7:18 p.m.

Springfield Circulator (TAGS), Route S80: Bus transfers will be issued and valid for 50¢ on other buses (TAGS cash fare remains at 25¢.) Bus transfers (including the all day transfer and Fairfax Connector transfers), as well as Metrobus passes will be accepted for full fare on TAGS buses between Franconia-Springfield Metrorail station, Springfield Mall and the Springfield Hilton. Rail-to-bus transfers will not be accepted on TAGS service. The TAGS Board has endorsed this change and Fairfax County has agreed to subsidize the revenue loss associated with the acceptance of bus transfers on TAGS service. Note: The above does not apply to trips between Franconia-Springfield and Metro Park, which remains a free fare segment of the route. However, customers boarding at Beulah Street or Walker Lane only will, upon request, be issued a free transfer valid for 50¢ on the next bus.

Also, use of the route number S80 will be discontinued on 30-foot buses assigned to this service. Instead, the buses will display "TAGS" in the route number display and "Franconia-Springfield" in the destination display. Timetables and maps will be reprinted to eliminate references to the S80 route number.

Springfield Mall Parking Lot Shuttle, Route S91: Use of the route number S91 will be discontinued. Buses will display "Mall" in the route number display and "Shuttle" in the destination display. Timetables and maps will be reprinted to eliminate references to the S91 route number.
