Morgan Boulevard Metrorail station wins architecture award

The Morgan Boulevard Metrorail station received an Award of Excellence in Institutional Architecture earlier this month from the Northern Virginia chapter of the American Institute of Architects (AIA).

STV Incorporated, the designer of record for the station and part of the project design team of HSMM/STV Largo Joint Venture, submitted the Morgan Boulevard station for the design award. STV’s offices are in Vienna, Va. The contractor was Clark-Kiewit Largo Joint Venture. The AIA Northern Virginia Chapter design awards program honors and celebrates its members’ commitment to design excellence. Institutional architecture includes structures for education, religion and government.

Morgan Boulevard station on Metrorail’s Blue Line opened on December 18, 2004. The station incorporates new design standards embraced by Metro for new stations including a more visible pavilion entrance, dual elevators, escalator/stair pairs, more glass and steel as opposed to concrete, and improved signage and lighting.

The Morgan Boulevard Metrorail station currently serves an average of 1,100 customers each weekday.
