Metro Celebrates Transit Police Graduation Ceremony

Four new Metro Transit Police officers officially joined the ranks of the Metro Transit Police today in a special graduation ceremony held at Metro headquarters. The Metro Transit Police Department has 380 sworn officers.

Members of the Metro Transit Police Department Graduating Class of 67 include:

  • Robert A. Acre, Stafford County, VA
  • Patrick O’Connell, Alexandria, VA
  • Rebecca J. Payne, Sterling, VA
  • Petrina N. Wilson, Fort Washington, MD

During their 37 weeks of police training, officers delved into topics such as customer service, weapons of mass destruction, responding to Metrorail emergencies, criminal law, vehicle law, ethics, courtroom testimony, collection of evidence and accident investigation.

"We are very proud of the current class of recruits who, as fully certified Metro Transit Police officers, have taken an oath to protect our customers, employees, and facilities," stated Polly Hanson, Metro’s Chief of Police. "In this era of increased attention to potential terrorist threats, these officers will take their place alongside veteran officers who make up one of the finest police departments in the United States, ready to protect and serve."
