Metrobus Detours for the Pentagon Construction Project

Beginning Monday, August 8, the Pentagon Facilities office will begin a reconstruction project of a portion of Eads Street between North and South Rotary Roads that will impact Metrobus service for about six weeks.

During the construction, buses will use a temporary roadway through the south parking area on the west side of Eads Street. Concrete barriers between North Rotary Road and the Pentagon Transit Center will be temporarily removed to permit direct access by buses between the temporary roadway and the Pentagon Transit Center. The "Buses Only" ramp from southbound Route 110 to the Pentagon will be open for use, so that route 13 can be rerouted directly into the Pentagon instead of the present route via Army-Navy Drive and Eads Street.

Leaving the Pentagon, concrete barriers between the Pentagon Transit Center and the connector bridge to Boundary Channel Drive will be temporarily removed so that Route 13 buses can be rerouted more directly to northbound Route 110 instead of operating via Eads and 15th Street.

Pentagon Police will make every effort to expedite the flow of traffic on the temporary roadway around the construction site, particularly during the morning and afternoon peak periods. However, customers should be advised that delays of 10 to 15 minutes per trip are possible while entering and leaving the Pentagon during this time.

Effective Monday, August 8, the following detours will be implemented at the Pentagon:

All bus routes except Routes 13A, B, F, G to and from Jefferson Davis Highway (Rt. 110) Memorial Bridge: at all times entering and leaving the Pentagon Transit Center, buses to or from I-395, Eads Street, Army-Navy Drive or from Fern Street and/or South Rotary Road will use the temporary roadway through the south parking lot on the west side of Eads Street on both directions between South Rotary Road and the Pentagon Transit Center.

Routes 13B, F to Pentagon/Reagan National Airport: Operating over the present route via westbound from the Memorial Bridge and southbound from Jefferson Davis Highway (route 110) to the "Metro Facility - Buses Only" ramp, then will turn right on the ramp, make another right on the North/South connector road, a right through the barricade opening into the Pentagon Transit Center, a right on the lower level exit roadway from the transit center, then a left to the upper level roadway and designated bus bay.

Routes 13A and 13G to downtown D.C. via the Memorial Bridge: On Saturday and Sunday mornings, route 13G from Reagan National Airport will operate via Eads Street and the temporary roadway into the Pentagon Transit Center to the designated bus bay on the upper level. Routes 13A and 13G will operate from the Pentagon Transit Center as follows: from the designated bus bay on the upper level, then a left to the barricade opening to the North/South Connector Road, then a left on the North/South Connector Road (bridge across Route 110), a left on Boundary Channel Drive, left roadway to Northbound Route 110, and continue northbound on Jefferson Davis Highway (Route 110) and then the present route to downtown via the Memorial Bridge.

As a result of the above detour, bus route 13 will not serve stops on Eads Street between Army-Navy Drive and 15th Street on weekdays.

When the construction project is completed, another press release will be issued with details on permanent rerouting for the routes 13A, B, F, G to and from the Pentagon.
