Metrobus service changes in Maryland begin September 25

Several service changes on Metrobus will be implemented on 11 lines in Maryland beginning September 25. The changes are in response to customer requests and will better reflect current traffic conditions, eliminate overcrowding on some routes, shorten passenger waits between trips on other routes, or improve transfer connections between buses and trains.

Laurel Line, Routes 89, 89M

All service will be rerouted through the Konterra Business Campus. Southbound trips will operate via regular route to Route 1, then via Muirkirk Meadows Drive, Muirkirk Road, Virginia Manor Road and Ritz Way back to Route 1, where they will resume the regular route. Northbound trips will follow the reverse routing. Bus times will change slightly.

Bowie - Belair Line, Routes B24, B25

An earlier bus will be added to the schedule. This bus will leave the Bowie Park & Ride lot at 5:04 a.m. and arrive at the New Carrollton Metrorail station at 5:46 a.m. in time for customers to connect with the 5:54 a.m. Orange Line train. The 5:30 a.m. bus from the lot will be changed to leave at 5:28 a.m. and arrive at the station at 6:10 a.m. Buses will leave the station every 30 minutes in the afternoon rush starting at 3:05 p.m.

Greenbelt - Glenmont Line, Routes C7, C9

The C7 bus that leaves Greenbelt station at 6:56 a.m. will be changed to leave at 6:53 a.m. to make it easier for customers to connect with the Z2 bus at Randolph Road and New Hampshire Avenue. The C9 bus that leaves Glenmont station at 6:05 a.m. will be changed to leave at 6:02 a.m.

Hillcrest Heights Line, Route C14 only

Saturday departure times from the terminals will not change, but arrival times will change at all stops along the route.

I-270 Express, J7, J9

Additional running time will be added to the schedule to reflect current traffic conditions. In the mornings, J9 bus departure times will change, but arrivals in Bethesda will still be between 6:25 and 9:02 a.m. The number of buses scheduled to run in the

mornings will change from 11 to10. In the afternoons, there will be 11 instead of 12 of the J9 buses leaving the Bethesda station between 3:10 and 6:22 p.m. In addition, the number of J7 buses scheduled will be reduced by one bus in the morning and one in the afternoon.

New Hampshire Avenue - Maryland Line, Route K6

In the mornings until 8:30 a.m., buses going to White Oak will turn off of New Hampshire Avenue via Mahan Road to serve a stop at the main entrance of the new Food and Drug Administration complex at the Federal Research Center in White Oak. Between 3 and 5:30 p.m., buses going to Fort Totten will do likewise. Ride On #22 buses also will serve this location.

Forestville Line, Routes K11, K12, K13

The schedule and route will change to reflect the closure of the Hil Mar Drive entrance to buses at Park Berkshire Apartments. Inbound buses will operate via regular route to Walters Lane, then via Hil Mar Drive, Regency Parkway and Surrey Square Lane to the north-south Park Berkshire roadway at the Berkshire Elementary School where the regular route is resumed. Outbound buses follow the reverse routing.

Note: Currently, only the trip times will change. The implementation of the reroute will be coordinated with the closure of the Hil Mar entrance to Park Berkshire, which has been delayed.

Connecticut Avenue - Maryland Line, Route L8 only

Departure times from Friendship Heights station will be coordinated with Ride On #1 bus times on weekday evenings after 7:30 p.m. Ride On and L8 buses will run every 15 minutes. Between 8:05 and 11:05 p.m., L8 buses will leave the station at five and 35 minutes past the hour. Ride On #1 buses will run every 20 and 50 minutes past the hour. L8 bus times from Aspen Hill after 8 p.m. also will be adjusted to leave at 13 and 43 minutes past the hour through 10:43 p.m.

Colesville - Ashton Line, Route Z2

The 7:16 a.m. bus from Olney will be changed to leave at 7:19 a.m. to make it easier for customers to transfer to the C7 bus that will leave Greenbelt station at 6:53 a.m.

Tanglewood - Westfarm Line, Route Z6

Due to light ridership, the last Z6 bus, which leaves the Silver Spring Metrorail station week nights at 9:46 p.m. going to Burtonsville, will end at Castle Boulevard. The 10:48 p.m. Z6 bus from Burtonsville also will be discontinued. The existing 9:38 p.m. trip from Burtonsville will be the last bus to Silver Spring.

Fairland Line, Route Z8

The 6:55 a.m. Z8 bus from White Oak will be changed to leave at 6:58 a.m. and arrive at Silver Spring station at 7:20 a.m. An additional Z8 bus will leave the station at 4:34 p.m. going to White Oak. The 5:03 p.m. bus will be changed to leave the station at 5:06 p.m.
