Metro Announces Weekend Rail Service ChangesTrack Work at Braddock Road to Impact Blue and Yellow Line Service

All Blue and Yellow Line Trains to Operate Every 38 Minutes South of Pentagon City Metro Advises Patrons to Consider Alternate Transportation

This weekend, Metro will conduct a major track rehabilitation project at the Braddock Road Metrorail station on the Blue and Yellow Lines that will have a major impact on rail service south of Pentagon City. Customers who normally use the Blue and Yellow Line south of Pentagon City can expect long waits for trains and may want to consider using alternate transportation.

The service changes scheduled for this weekend are:

Blue and Yellow Lines: Braddock Road - Switch Replacement

When: Friday, September 23, 10 p.m. to Monday, September 26, 5 a.m.

This weekend, Metro personnel will replace the track switch outside the Braddock Road Metrorail station. The track switch is a portion of the track that allows trains to switch from one track to another.

To perform this work, Metro will institute the following Blue and Yellow Line weekend service pattern:

All Blue Line trains will share one track between the Van Dorn Street and Pentagon City Metrorail stations.

All Yellow Line trains will share one track between the Huntington and Pentagon City Metrorail stations.

All Blue and Yellow Line trains will operate every 38 minutes through the work location where trains will share one track.

All Blue and Yellow Line trains will operate with six cars.

Metro advises patrons to use Metrobus routes to and from the Pentagon Bus Terminal (north of the track work) to head into and out of Washington, D.C., from Northern Virginia.

To alert customers about this work, Metro will send e-Alerts, and make train and system announcements. Additional information is available on Metro’s web site at www.metroopensdoors.com.

The Trip Planner, located on Metro’s Web site, will not reflect the impact of this work on its schedules. Customers should allow more time for their trips because of this work. For more information on traveling by Metrobus or Metrorail, customers may call (202) 637-7000 or TTY (202) 638-3780.
