Sick passenger causes major morning delays on the Red Line

A Metrorail passenger on board a Red Line train at Metro Center required emergency medical attention this morning while traveling on the train. The incident caused major delays on the Red Line as the train waited for emergency medical help to arrive and treat the ill passenger.

Train 154, headed toward Glenmont, was stopped at Metro Center from 8:21 to 8:53 a.m. Three trains shared one track to get around the incident. Other Red Line trains slowed or were delayed significantly while the trains single tracked around the incident. Some platforms were packed as people waited for the incident to clear. Station announcements were made to inform customers about the delay.

The ambulance arrived at 8:35 a.m., and the 59-year-old man, who had passed out on the train, was removed by emergency medical technicians and taken to a local hospital.

Train service resumed at 8:53 a.m., although residual delays continued.
