Metro Announces Weekend Rail Service Changes

Track Work at Braddock Road to Impact Blue and Yellow Line ServiceAll Blue and Yellow Line Trains to Operate Every 38 Minutes South of Pentagon City Metro Advises Patrons to Consider Alternate Transportation

This weekend, Metro will continue a major track rehabilitation project at the Braddock Road Metrorail station on the Blue and Yellow Lines that will have a major impact on rail service south of the Pentagon City Metrorail station on Friday night and all day Saturday. Customers who normally use the Blue and Yellow Lines south of Pentagon City can expect longer waits for trains, and should consider using alternate transportation. Trains will arrive only once every 38 minutes in the area of the track work.

The service changes scheduled for this weekend are:

Blue and Yellow Lines: Braddock Road - Switch Replacement

When: Friday, September 30, 8 p.m. to Sunday, October 2, 3 a.m.

This weekend, Metro personnel will replace the track switch outside the Braddock Road Metrorail station. The track switch is a portion of the track that allows trains to switch from one track to another. Passengers should add up to 45 minutes of travel time for this work.

To perform this work, Metro will institute the following Blue and Yellow Line weekend service pattern:

All Blue and Yellow Line trains will operate every 38 minutes through the work location where trains will share one track.

All Blue Line trains will share one track between the Van Dorn Street and Pentagon City Metrorail stations.

All Yellow Line trains will share one track between the Huntington and Pentagon City Metrorail stations.

All Blue and Yellow Line trains will operate with six cars.

Every other Blue Line train that operates to Franconia-Springfield and every other Yellow Line train that operates to Huntington, will terminate at Pentagon City and return to the Largo Town Center and Mt. Vernon Sq/7th St-Convention Center Metrorail stations respectively. This will allow for additional rail service back into Washington, D.C.

Patrons should use Metrobus routes to and from the Pentagon Bus Terminal (north of the track work) to head into and out of Washington, D.C., from Northern Virginia.

To alert customers about this work, Metro will send e-Alerts, make train and system announcements and have information posted on its Web site.

The Trip Planner, located on Metro’s Web site, will not reflect the impact of this work on its schedules.
