Metro Unveils New Rail Fare Signs As Part of a Pilot Program

Looking to make it easier for riders to know how much their fare is before entering the Metrorail system, Metro has installed new rail fare signs above its fare vending machines at four Metrorail stations as part of a pilot program to gauge passenger awareness and usage.

The new rail fare signs are currently located at Union Station and Shady Grove on the Red Line, Greenbelt on the Green Line, and Franconia-Springfield on the Blue Line.

While the rail fare signs are at these locations, Metro personnel will be talking to riders to get their feedback on the signs. Any suggestions or changes will be incorporated before expanding the project from a pilot program to full implementation at all 86 Metrorail stations.

The implementation of the new rail fare signs is part of Metro’s enhanced safety and customer service reliability initiatives for fiscal year 2006.
