Metro officials will host a public forum from <" xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />7 to 10 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 1, in the auditorium at  Oakton High School in Vienna, VA, to present to and discuss with the public the proposed sale of 3.75 acres of Metro-owned land near the Vienna/Fairfax-GMU Metrorail station.  Oakton High School is located at 2900 Sutton Road in Vienna.

The transaction would sell the land to Pulte Home Corporation and would become part of development on the south side of the station. Pulte owns or controls most of the 53 acres of land south of the station and has filed rezoning applications with Fairfax County for development on this consolidated land.

The forum will begin with a presentation on the proposed sale, a discussion of the rezoning proposal, and opening statements both in support of and in opposition to the proposed sale and possible development. The Fairfax County Board of Supervisors, not Metro staff or the Metro Board, would approve or disapprove the rezoning of this land.

Metro will use an innovative process that blends speaking opportunities for the public and dialogue among group representatives in an attempt to create a forum on the issues, both pro and con, that surround the sale of this land.  The details will be explained at the start of the forum.

Speakers will have two minutes and be asked to focus on the key reason why they support or oppose this action by the WMATA Board and its possible impact on the rezoning which will be before the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors.  Time limits will be enforced to ensure comments from as many attendees as possible.  Metro will alternate between those speaking in favor and those speaking in opposition.
