District of Columbia Public Schools and the Metropolitan Police Department, working through the District of Columbia Department of Transportation, requested the non-regional Metrobus service to take students from school to their neighborhoods in the afternoon to reduce crowding on existing buses and reduce loitering around area bus stops. The new bus service is expected to take about 100 students off of two bus routes currently serving the area. The District of Columbia will pay an estimated $20,000 a year for the bus service.

The A31 will travel south on 16th Street, SE, turn left on S Street, left on Minnesota Avenue, right on Ely Place, left on 37th Street, left on Ridge Road, right on Minnesota Avenue and continue to the Minnesota Ave Metrorail station.

The A32 will travel south on 16th Street, SE, turn left on S Street, right on 17th Street, left on Good Hope Road, right on Naylor Road, right on Alabama Avenue, left on 23rd Street, left on Savannah Street, right on 25th Street, right on Southern Avenue and continue to the Southern Ave Metrorail station.

The A33 will travel south on 16th Street, SE, turn right on Minnesota Avenue, right on Good Hope Road, left on Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue, left on Morris Road, right on Pomeroy Road, right on Stanton Road, right on Sheridan Road, and continue on Howard Road to the Anacostia Metrorail station.

Although Metrobuses A31, A32 and A33 are designed for Anacostia High School students, they will be available to any Metrobus rider and will stop at all existing Metrobus stops along the routes. The buses will operate only when school is in session.
