Metrobus service changes in Virginia begin December 18

Several service changes on Metrobus will be implemented on nine lines in Virginia beginning December 18. The changes are in response to customer requests and will improve service reliability and improve transfer connections between buses and trains.

The weekday 2A eastbound bus that leaves Dunn Loring-Merrifield station at 5:28 a.m. will leave at 5:23 a.m. to improve connections with Orange Line trains at East Falls Church station.

The 7C southbound bus that leaves Pentagon station at 7:05 p.m. will be rescheduled to pass intermediate time points and arrive at Park Center three minutes earlier than currently scheduled.

The eastbound 12E bus that leaves Centreville Methodist Church Park & Ride Lot at 8:05 a.m. will leave at 8:02 a.m. In response to customers’ requests, an additional 12F bus will leave Braddock and Old Centreville roads at 8:13 a.m. and arrive at Vienna/Fairfax-GMU station at 9:03 a.m.

The eastbound 12C bus that leaves the Sully Government Center Park & Ride Lot at 8:06 a.m. will leave at 7:58 a.m. The 4:14 p.m. eastbound 12D bus from Lee Road and Conference Center Drive will be discontinued and replaced by a 12R bus that will pass Lee Road at 4:19 p.m. (More details about the 12R and 12S changes are listed below.)

The eastbound 12L bus that leaves Union Mill Road and The Colonnade at 7:03 a.m. will be changed to leave at 7:01 a.m. and arrive at Vienna/Fairfax-GMU station at 7:38 a.m.

The eastbound 12R bus that leaves Park Meadow Drive at 3:51 p.m. will be discontinued. The bus that leaves that location at 4:19 p.m. will be changed to leave at 4:15 p.m. and extended to serve the Lee Road and Conference Center Drive loop, replacing the discontinued 12D bus. The 12R bus that leaves Park Meadow Drive at 6:17 p.m. will be rescheduled to leave at 6:20 p.m.

A new eastbound 12S bus will leave Park Meadow Drive at 8:27 a.m. and arrive at Vienna/Fairfax-GMU station at 9:08 a.m. A new westbound 12S bus will leave Vienna/Fairfax-GMU station at 3:32 p.m. and arrive at Park Meadow Drive at 4:12 p.m. In addition, 12S buses that leave the station between 4 and 6:30 p.m. will be rescheduled to arrive two minutes later than currently scheduled at all intermediate time points and at Park Meadow Drive.

In response to customers’ requests, 13B and 13F buses will be rerouted between southbound Virginia Rt. 110 and Pentagon station via Army-Navy Drive, Fern Street, South Rotary Road and Eads Street to the Pentagon Transit Center. This change will permit 13B and 13F buses from D.C. to serve the bus stop on westbound Army- Navy Drive at Eads Street and make it easier for customers to transfer to other buses or walk to Pentagon City. On weekends and holidays, 13B, 13F and 13G buses that leave Reagan National Airport will continue to run via northbound Eads Street to the Pentagon Transit Center. Customers may continue to get off the bus at the northbound stop on Eads Street at Army-Navy Drive and cross Army-Navy Drive to transfer to any bus from the Pentagon.

The weekday schedule will change for buses that leave Pentagon station between 5:42 and 8:32 a.m. Buses will be rescheduled to leave the station at 10 minute intervals.

Weekday late evening, Saturday and Sunday schedules will change to reflect the 9 p.m. closing of Fort Belvoir’s main gate (Pence Gate) and the detour routing (via Richmond Highway and Pohick Road) that has been in effect since September 20, 2005.
