Woman Fatally Injured By Metrobus in Southwest Washington

A Metrobus fatally injured a woman who was attempting to cross an intersection in Washington, D.C., earlier this morning.

At approximately 9:01 a.m., Metrobus 4082, traveling route P1, to Potomac Park, was traveling eastbound on D Street S.W., and was making a left turn on to northbound 3rd Street S.W. A female walking eastbound on D Street, S.W., crossing on to 3rd Street in the crosswalk was struck by the left middle side of the Metrobus, fatally injuring her.

There were five passengers on the Metrobus at the time of the incident. The passengers were moved on another Metrobus to continue onto their destinations.

The 24-year old male bus operator, who has been with Metro since June 2005, was placed on routine leave pending a standard drug and alcohol analysis.

The woman who was struck by the bus has not been identified at this time. The cause of today’s incident is still under investigation by the District of Columbia Police Department. No charges have been filed against the Metrobus driver.
