Disabled train causes Orange Line delays

A mechanical problem on a six-car train caused significant delays on the Orange Line this morning as mechanics had difficulty moving the disabled train from the tracks.

Train 905, went into service at the West Falls Church-VT/UVA station at 6:27 a.m., picked up three passengers and headed toward Vienna. About 100 feet outside the station, the train experienced a mechanical problem and came to a stop.

Metro employees escorted the customers from the train back to the West Falls Church-VT/UVA Metrorail station at 7:14 a.m. as others worked to remove the train from the tracks. Trains single-tracked around the incident, which was just outside the West Falls Church-VT/UVA station, on the outbound track headed in the direction of Vienna/Fairfax-GMU. A bus bridge was established to help get passengers around the delay, taking passengers from the West Falls Church station to the Dunn Loring-Merrifield and Vienna stations.

The incident train was removed from the tracks and trains began moving through the area again at 8:22 a.m., although residual delays were expected to continued until about 9:15 a.m.

Officials are looking into the cause of the mechanical problem on the train.
