Metro details weekday single-tracking work schedule

Track work to occur between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. most weekdays

This winter and spring, Metro will conduct weekday track work that will involve temporary single-track operations during the middle of the day.

Metro is undertaking several major track renovation projects weekdays between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., that will require trains to share one track – allowing for trains to run in both directions on one track during normal operations. As individual sections of track are repaired, trains must share a single track through the affected area. This "single tracking" can result in delays of 10 to 15 minutes.

The track renovation program is part of Metro’s major capital program that includes the repair of the Metrorail system. The majority of this work is done late at night and on weekends, however, some work during regular weekday service hours cannot be avoided.

Future work dates

February to April 2006: Red Line trains will share one track between Friendship Heights and Medical Center most weekdays between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.

February 2006: Orange Line trains will share one track between New Carrollton and Cheverly most weekdays between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.

March to April 2006: Blue and Yellow Line trains will share one track between Pentagon City and Braddock Road most weekdays between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.

Please note, this schedule is subject to change. Metro will update any service changes through news releases and on its Web site.
