After completing his regular duties as a member of MTPD’s Special Response Team on Feb. 20, 2005, Officer Bond followed up on a report of a shooting in the 3600 block of Silver Park Drive in Suitland, Md. At approximately 1:30 p.m., Officer Bond, who was off-duty, but still in uniform, observed a shooting victim, quickly interviewed witnesses, obtained a look out for the suspect and arranged for someone to call an ambulance for the victim.

Officer Bond pursued the suspect in his personal vehicle and spotted him near the intersection of Silver Hill Road and Silver Park Drive. The suspect did not respond to Officer Bond’s verbal commands and instead fled on foot. Officer Bond ran after the suspect over a fence and across fast moving traffic on Silver Hill Road. During a brief struggle with the suspect, Prince George’s County Police arrived and assisted in the arrest. Police found an automatic machine gun and semi-automatic handgun during a search of the subject. He is currently serving a prison sentence for murder. The shooting victim was transported to a local hospital and later died from his injuries.

" Officer Bond’s decision to pursue the suspect displayed extreme courage and genuine concern for the victim and community. His confrontation and struggle with this murder suspect placed himself at great risk," said MTPD Chief Polly Hanson.
