Metro hosts emergency preparedness outreach events at Metrorail stations

Metro hits the road to host an Emergency Management Outreach session at a different Metrorail station each month to greet riders with safety, security and emergency preparedness reminders during their morning commutes.

Officials with Metro’s System Safety and Risk Protection Department and Transit Police will hold their next Emergency Management Outreach event at Union Station Metrorail station on Tuesday, March 1, from 7:30 to 9 a.m.

During the outreach events, Metro riders have the opportunity to talk with and question safety officials, learn about safety features in the Metro system, including how to use the emergency intercoms and where to find emergency exits. They also can pick up literature on system security, including Metrobus and Metrorail safety brochures, and Metro: Emergency Guide, a special edition of the Express newspaper.

Metro uses the opportunity to keep an open line of communications with riders and remind them about their role in keeping Metro safe by remaining aware of their surroundings and reporting suspicious activity. Metro’s safety and police officials also remind riders about the importance and necessity of emergency planning and having an alternate route.

Emergency Management Outreach sessions will be held from 7:30 to 9 a.m. at:

Union Station Metrorail station on March 7
L’Enfant Plaza Metrorail station on April 4
Franconia-Springfield Metrorail station on May 2
