Public Hearing scheduled on Dulles Metrorail Project

Metro and the Virginia Department of Rail and Public Transportation will hold a public hearing about proposed changes to the Dulles Corridor rail extension project.

The hearing is an opportunity for people to comment about the environmental assessment and proposed changes to the approved plan for the rail extension to Wiehle Avenue in Fairfax County, Va.

The hearing will take place at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, March 28, at the Kilmer Middle School, 8100 Wolftrap Road in Fairfax, Va. An open house begins at 6:30 p.m.

The Federal Transit Administration (FTA) approved the alignment for the rail extension last spring. The Dulles Corridor Metrorail Project made several design refinements as it moved through preliminary engineering, such as moving the rail track to the median of Route 7 and shortening a tunnel in Tysons Corner.
The FTA has worked with the project team to prepare an environmental assessment that describes the potential environmental effects that could result from these changes.
Comments will be accepted verbally and in writing at the public hearing or via e-mail. Individuals or representatives of organizations may sign up to speak at the hearing or ahead of time by submitting their name, address, telephone number and organization affiliation by noon the day of hearing. Please send submissions to: Office of the Secretary, Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority, 600 Fifth Street, NW, Washington, DC 20001 or by e-mail at public-hearing-testimony@wmata.com. Please register only one speaker’s name per letter and refer to Hearing No. 172, Docket R06-1 in the heading.
