Metro Announces Weekend Service Reminders

Canopy installation at the Van Ness-UDC Metrorail Station, the daylight saving time change early Sunday morning, and an early Metrorail opening this Sunday morning for the Cherry Blossom 10-mile race are some of the service changes that Metrorail riders can expect this weekend. Full details are below.

Canopy Construction at the Van-Ness UDC Metrorail Station

The Van Ness-UDC Metrorail station’s east entrance on the Red Line will be closed on Saturday April 1, while personnel work on the installation of the new escalator canopy. Customers who normally use this entrance should use the west entrance on the opposite side of Connecticut Avenue. The station’s east entrance is expected to be open on Sunday, April 2.

Metro Reminds Customers that Daylight-Saving Time Begins Early Sunday Morning

Metro wants to remind customers that daylight saving time begins at 2 a.m. on Sunday, April 2. At that time, all clocks move ahead by one hour. When that happens, it will become 3 a.m., and the Metrorail system will close.

Metrorail customers who are planning their trips should expect the last trains of the evening to pass through stations one hour earlier than usual on that night.

Normally, the Metrorail system is open until 3 a.m. on Friday and Saturday nights.

Metrorail To Open at 6 a.m. on Sunday, April 2

On Sunday, April 2, the Metrorail system will open one hour early, at 6 a.m., to accommodate people attending the Credit Union Cherry Blossom 10-mile race. The race starts at West Potomac Park, winds its way across the Memorial Bridge and along Rock Creek Parkway. The closest Metrorail stop for customers is the Foggy Bottom-GWU Metrorail station on the Blue and Orange Lines.

During that period of time, Metrorail will provide typical Sunday morning service with a 15-minute frequency on all lines.
