Metro to Host Public Hearing on the Glenmont Parking Garage

Metro officials will hold a public hearing at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 26, at the Stella B. Werner Council Office Building, 7th Floor, 100 Maryland Avenue in Rockville, MD, to receive public input into the plans to construct a new parking garage at the Glenmont Metrorail station, located on the Red Line.

At the request of Montgomery County, Metro is considering construction of a parking structure to serve the Glenmont Metrorail station. Two alternatives are under review. Either parking structure would provide additional parking for commuters using the Metrorail system.

The first alternative calls for the construction of a 1,200-space, multi-level parking structure located on the west side of Georgia Avenue. Under this alternative, Montgomery County is considering an option to construct a future fire station on the land adjacent to the parking structure.

The second alterative calls for the construction of a 925-space, multi-level parking structure located on the east side of Georgia Avenue. This alternative does not include an option to construct a fire station.

Persons desiring to be heard with respect to the proposed projects are requested to furnish in writing their name, address, telephone number, and organization affiliation, if any, to the Office of the Secretary, WMATA, 600 Fifth St., NW, Washington, DC 20001, by noon, April 26. Alternatively, requests to speak may be faxed to 202-962-1133 or e-mailed to public-hearing-testimony@wmata.com. Others present at the hearing may be heard after those persons on the witness list have been called and heard.
