Metro announces winners of 2006 Student Poster Contest


Posters depict the theme " Metro: Opening Doors for 30 Years"

Metro announced the winners of its 2006 Student Poster Contest, including the Poster of the Year and Metro Employee Choice Award, at a reception for the student artists, their parents and teachers at Metro headquarters on Friday, April 28.

David Hong of Stonewall Jackson High School in Manassas, VA, created the 2006 Poster of the Year, which illustrates the contest theme, “Metro: Opening Doors for 30 Years.” Myong Sook Kim, of Fairfax High School and the J Art Studio in Annandale, VA, won the Metro Employee Choice Award.

Metro awarded four grand prizes, one each for the primary (grades K-3), elementary (grades 4-6), junior (grades 7-9) and senior (grades 10-12) divisions. First, second and third place prizes also were awarded to students in the District of Columbia, Maryland and Virginia in the following categories in each jurisdiction: primary, elementary, junior and senior.

The Poster of the Year will be displayed in Metrorail cars and Metrobuses later this year. The Poster of the Year and grand prize posters will be showcased on the Metro Web site, www.MetroOpensDoors.com. In addition, all winning posters will be displayed at Metro Center in the fall once school reopens.
