Metro Successfully Completes Blue and Orange Line Weekend Track Work on Time

Over the weekend, Metro successfully completed a major track rehabilitation project on the Blue and Orange Lines outside the Stadium-Armory Metrorail station. The rehabilitation project was completed on time, and Blue and Orange Line service was operating normally this morning when the rail system opened at 5 a.m.

Metro personnel conducted a complete maintenance overhaul outside the Stadium Armory Metrorail station on the Blue and Orange Lines from 10 p.m., Friday, June 2, to 5 a.m., this morning. This included the replacement of 900 feet of running rail, cross ties, tie plates, stone ballast, and traction power cables on both tracks. As a result of this work, trains did not operate between Stadium-Armory and Benning Road, and Stadium-Armory and Minnesota Avenue.

Metro operated a free shuttle bus service every five minutes between Stadium-Armory and Benning Road, and between Stadium-Armory and Minnesota Avenue, carrying 36,859 people.

In addition to the free shuttle bus service, Metro made continuous train and system announcements, had additional station managers, rail and bus supervisors, and Metro Information Persons, volunteers at key Metrorail stations providing customer assistance.
