Metro supports "Dump the Pump Day" June 8

Metro officials are joining the nationwide effort to encourage public transit use and encourage area residents to leave their vehicles at home for National Dump the Pump Day on Thursday, June 8.

Metro is joining 60 other public transportation systems throughout the country to demonstrate that public transit offers the quickest, easiest alternative to the high cost of driving. National Dump the Pump Day is sponsored by the American Public Transportation Association.

"Public transit is the best way to beat the high gasoline prices," said Metro Interim General Manager Dan Tangherlini, who takes Metrobus and Metrorail to get around town. "I challenge area residents to join me in using public transit all day on June 8. Not only does taking transit save money, it also helps the environment."

Metro’s Riders’ Advisory Council members will be at the Gallery Place-Chinatown Metrorail station on Wednesday morning at 7:15 a.m. to encourage area residents to sign a pledge to give up their cars for one day. Members of the public can sign a pledge not to use their automobiles on Thursday.
