Dump The Pump Day Nets Metro Ridership Gain

Metrorail ridership reached 774,255 trips yesterday, June 8, the seventh highest weekday ridership in the system’s 30-year history. The spike is partially attributed to yesterday’s National Dump The Pump Day, an effort to encourage the use of public transportation sponsored by the American Public Transportation Association. The Washington Nationals game also contributed to the high number.

Yesterday marks the second high ridership day this week. Ridership climbed to 764,511 trips Wednesday, June 9, Metrorail’s 12th highest weekday ridership. There were no specific events that contributed to Wednesday’s trip total.

Typical weekday ridership sees about 700,000 customers taking trips on Metrorail. Combined with Metrobus ridership, Metro provided about 1.2 million trips yesterday. Typical weekday bus ridership has been about 446,000 trips.
