Metro Transit Police nab armed juveniles at Anacostia Metrorail station

The Metro Transit Police took three juveniles into custody and recovered three handguns today in Anacostia after receiving a tip from a Metro rider who reported that several juveniles at the Waterfront-SEU Metrorail station platform were claiming to have guns. The subjects include two, 16-year-old males and one, 15-year-old male, all from the District of Columbia.

Metro Transit Police responded immediately and stopped a Green Line train at the Anacostia Metrorail station. Police found three male subjects who matched the description and took them off the Branch Ave-bound train. Two subjects were taken into custody at Anacostia station at approximately 11:40 a.m.

The third subject fled the scene. He was caught just before noon after Metro Transit Police set up a perimeter in the area and called in a K9 unit to conduct a search. The police dog was successful in tracking the subject.

The juveniles will be charged with carrying a pistol without a license and carrying prohibited ammunition. Metro Transit Police are continuing an investigation. The subjects will be transferred to the District of Columbia’s Juvenile Processing Center.
