HUD converts to Metro’s SmartBenefits program

Traveling to work has gotten even easier for 1,500 workers in the Washington metropolitan area, thanks to Metro’s SmartBenefits® program now being used by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). Numerous organizations in D.C., Maryland and Virginia are saving time, effort and administrative costs through SmartBenefits®.

The SmartBenefits® program is a web-based program that allows employers to conveniently load the dollar value of an employee’s Metrochek transit, vanpool and Metro station parking benefits directly to an employee’s SmarTrip® card. The current transit benefits remain at $105, while parking benefits increased for 2006.

"HUD employees now join more than 60,000 other employees in the Washington metropolitan region who participate in Metro’s SmartBenefits® program," states Lorraine Taylor, Metro’s manager of SmartBenefits®. Taylor believes close to 1,500 HUD employees will be involved in the program, which becomes effective July 1st.

For more information on the SmartBenefits® program, contact Lorraine Taylor at 202-962-2768, or refer to the SmartBenefits® quick link at www.wmata.com.
