Raymond J. Briscuso, Jr., Joins Metro Board

Bethesda resident Raymond J. Briscuso Jr., was sworn in to the 12-member Board of Directors of the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) today, a few weeks after being named by Maryland Governor Robert L. Ehrlich, Jr., to fill the seat vacated by Robert J. Smith.

Mr. Briscuso, 46, is the Principal of Briscuso and Associates, LLC, a strategic consulting firm that serves the biotechnology and life sciences industry. Prior to forming his own company, Mr. Briscuso served as the Executive Director of the Biotechnology Industry Organization (BIO) in Washington, D.C. Mr. Briscuso’s background includes business, law and public service. He has held management positions in a university-based business enterprise, as well as a Fortune 200 corporation. A member of the Maryland Bar, he practiced with a Washington, D.C., firm and had his own practice in Annapolis, MD. In 1988, he worked for President George H.W. Bush’s presidential campaign, and served in his administration working in the Office of National Service within the White House. He also served as the executive director in Maryland for the 1988 Presidential primary and general election campaigns.

Mr. Briscuso will serve the remainder of the three-year term that began on June 1, 2004.

“Ray Briscuso brings to the Metro Board the perspective of a regular transit rider,” said Robert L. Ehrlich, Jr., Governor of Maryland. “I am confident that Ray’s common sense approach and ability to build consensus will serve the citizens of Maryland very well during his tenure on the WMATA Board.”

“As a regular Red Line rider, a user of public transportation and a life-long resident of the metropolitan area, I am excited to be appointed to serve on the WMATA Board,” said Mr. Briscuso. “I look forward to serving the people of Maryland and the entire region and I will do my best to represent all of WMATA’s various stakeholders.”

Mr. Briscuso attended high school in the Maryland suburbs of Washington, D.C. He has an undergraduate degree from Auburn University and a law degree from Georgetown University. He is married and has three children.
