Purner Construction awarded contract to build police substation

The Metro Board of Directors awarded a contract to Purner Construction Yesterday, July 21, to begin work on the Metro Transit Police Department (MTPD) District I substation. Construction on the facility is slated to begin this summer near the Fort Totten Metrorail station.

The MTPD District I substation, a three-story, 18,500-square foot building, will serve as a home base for District I patrol officers. They will report to the facility for roll call, training and other administrative functions.

The substation will be named in honor of fallen MTPD Officer Marlon F. Morales, who was shot and killed while on duty in June 2001 and worked out of the current District I offices.
