Metrorail records ninth highest ridership
Metrorail ridership reached 779,734 trips Friday, July 21, the ninth highest weekday ridership in the system’s 30-year history. Friday’s sold out Washington National’s game and the grand re-opening of RFK stadium contributed to the high ridership. An estimated 28,450 people rode Metrorail to the game. It is traditionally unusual for Fridays to be high ridership days.
Typical weekday ridership sees about 700,000 customers taking trips on Metrorail and 460,000 taking trips on Metrobus. Combined, Metro provided about 1.2 million trips last Friday.
