Metro announces temporary changes to Route 29K Metrobus

The City of Fairfax will change Main and North streets in downtown Fairfax from a one-way pair to two way streets, affecting Metrobus Route 29K. The street changes will be in effect for a six-month trial period beginning August 5, after which the city will evaluate the new traffic patterns and determine if the changes should be permanent.

Effective Monday, August 7, 2006, Route 29K will be rerouted as follows:

Alexandria-Fairfax Line, Route 29K only

Westbound - The new route goes over the present route to the intersection of North Street and University drive, then turns left from University Drive to Armstrong Street, then continues along the present route on southbound University Drive to the George Mason University terminal at University Drive and George Mason Boulevard.

Eastbound - The new route goes over the present route to the intersection of Chain Bridge Road and Armstrong Street, then turns right on Armstrong Street, left on University Drive, right on North Street, right on Old Lee Highway, left on Main Street (Route 236) and continues along the present route to the intersection of Royal and Pendleton Streets.
