Metro to Stay Open Until 1 a.m. To Accommodate Monday Night’s Redskins Game

Metro To Run Extra Trains Shuttle Buses Available from Landover

Metrorail will stay open until 1 a.m. on Monday night and extra trains and personnel will be available to get fans home after the Redskins home opener on September 11.

Monday evening’s rush hour will be more crowded than usual in the Metrorail system as sports fans head to the Redskins game for the 7 p.m. season opener against the Minnesota Vikings at FedEx Field.

Metro will operate its normal afternoon rush hour service leading up to game time. After the game, Metro will have up to 14 additional trains available (a combination of six-cars and eight-cars) for fans traveling from the Morgan Boulevard and Largo Town Center Metrorail stations on the Blue Line and from the Landover Metrorail station on the Orange Line.

Fans headed to the Redskins game are encouraged to ride Metrorail’s Blue Line to the Morgan Boulevard Metrorail station, which is nine-tenths of a mile from the stadium. A walkway offers direct access to the stadium.

A second option for fans attending the game is to ride Metrorail’s Orange Line to the Landover Metrorail station to access the Metrobus shuttle to FedEx Field. Metrobus shuttle service will be available from the Landover station three hours before kickoff, and available two hours after the conclusion of the game. The shuttle service costs $5, with representatives from the Redskins collecting the $5 fee from riders after they arrive at the stadium.

Redskins fans who choose to park their vehicles at the Landover Metrorail station and ride the shuttle bus must purchase a SmarTrip® card and use the card to pay for the weekday parking rate of $3.50 upon leaving the Landover Metrorail Station Parking Lot after the game. Rechargeable cards are available for purchase at the station for $10, which includes a $5 value.

Non-Metrorail riders attending the football game who park their cars at the Morgan Boulevard and Largo Town Center Metrorail stations will have to pay $25 to park and they must have a SmarTrip® card to pay for parking when exiting these facilities. Non-Metrorail riders who park at the these stations and do not have a SmarTrip® card must purchase a card inside the station.

Metro will have additional station managers, rail supervisors, and Transit Police at Morgan Boulevard, Largo Town Center and Landover to assist customers.

Upon entering the Metrorail system, all fans should purchase enough value on their farecards or SmarTrip® cards for their round-trip.
