Federal Center SW Metrorail station elevator modernization continues

Shuttle bus service available during remainder of project

The modernization of the platform elevator at the Federal Center SW Metrorail continues and is now scheduled to run through November 1. Free, temporary shuttle buses are available for customers upon request.

The modernization work began in June and the elevator unit was originally expected back in service last month.

Metrorail riders who normally enter or exit at the Federal Center SW Metrorail station and are unable to use the escalator should call 202-962-1825 in advance of their trip to request a free shuttle bus. The shuttle bus for Federal Center SW will go to L’Enfant Plaza and Eastern Market Metrorail stations. Buses will be stationed in the area to accommodate these individuals.

An elevator modernization includes replacing a majority of the mechanical parts and elevator cab equipment with new ones to ensure the elevator operates safely and reliably for customers, and extends the life of the elevator.
