Wheaton rail station Kiss & Ride lot to close for construction

The 82 space Kiss & Ride lot off of Reedie Drive at the Wheaton Metrorail station will close Monday as part of a residential and retail construction project. Pedestrians heading to the station also can expect some detours around the construction.

Metro commuters may be dropped off and picked up at a new temporary 29 space Kiss & Ride lot located near the bus loop off of Veirs Mill Road. There is also short-term parking in a county garage located off Amherst Road, and a 977 space Metro garage at Veirs Mill Road and Reedie Drive. Bike racks and lockers will be relocated to the bus loop area.

Pedestrians walking to the station from the east will be detoured to a new temporary staircase located at the southeast corner of Georgia Avenue and Reedie Drive.
Construction of 173 residential units, 3,500 square feet of retail space and a new parking garage began last May. The new Kiss & Ride parking area will be located in the first two levels of the six-story garage. It’s set to open in spring 2008.
