Proposed relocation of bus facilities and parking changes at Takoma Station topics of October 11 public hearing

Metro is hosting a public hearing on the proposed relocation of bus facilities and parking changes at the Takoma Metrorail sation at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, October 11, at Trinity Episcopal Church, 7005 Piney Branch Road, NW, Washington, DC.

The public hearing will address how Metro officials are looking to amend the mass transit plan by the proposed sale of approximately 6.8 acres of land at the Takoma Metrorail station, and the corresponding relocation and reconfiguration of transit facilities at the station to remain on Metro property.

Generally, the relocation and reconfiguration of transit facilities at the station will consist of a realignment of roads, a relocation of (and increase in the number of ) bus bays and a change to the existing parking. Metro proposes that the existing 149- space surface parking lot be reduced and relocated to an approximately 75-space surface parking lot. In light of previous informal public comment, Metro is also presenting for formal public comment to the Board an alternative plan that would provide 128 parking spaces in a garage in lieu of the surface lot. In both alternatives, the developer has agreed to submit a site plan for District approval that provides for building an additional 19 public spaces (including Kiss & Ride and taxi spaces) on existing public streets.
