"Jack"The Metro Board of Directors is pleased to announce the appointment of Jack Requa as the Acting General Manager of the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority," said Gladys Mack, Chairman of Metro’s Board. The appointment will be effective Monday, November 6.

Interim General Manager Dan Tangherlini also announced today that his last day at the helm of the Metro system will be Sunday, November 5, although he will work in an advisory capacity over the following two weeks, through Friday, November 17, to assist with the transition. Requa has been Chief Operating Officer of Metrobus since 1998. In this capacity he has been responsible for the operation and maintenance of 1,500 buses, in 10 garages and two shops. He has been responsible for overseeing more than one third of Metro’s total workforce. Metrobuses travel 48 million miles over 340 routes, carrying 131 million passengers annually.

Before coming to Washington, Requa was the Director of Bus Service for the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority in Boston. In addition he has held senior management positions with transit authorities in Houston, St. Louis, Everett, WA, and Saudi Arabia. Requa is the immediate past Chair of the Clean Propulsion and Support Technology committee for the American Public Transportation Association. He holds a bachelor of arts degree in business from Western Washington University.

"I look forward to working more closely with the Board, senior leadership and all 10,000 employees to focus on sustaining the continuity of a safe and reliable transit system," Requa said.

"I plan to continue a strong focus on the 1.2 million riders that we carry every weekday to ensure that they have the best transit experience that we can provide each time they climb on board a bus, train or MetroAccess vehicle," said Requa, a resident of Vienna, VA.

Metro’s Board is continuing to conduct a national search for a permanent general manager in collaboration with the search firm of Gilbert Tweed Associates, Inc.

"We feel confident that under Jack’s leadership, Metro will continue to maintain the high quality of safe and reliable service that our riders are accustomed to," Mack said. "He brings decades of transit experience to the position, including eight years here at Metro."
