Power restored on Red Line

An unexpected power outage on the Red Line between Dupont Circle and the Woodley Park-Zoo/Adams Morgan Metrorail stations for approximately an hour and a half caused major delays to the morning rush hour this morning. The incident began at 5:53 a.m. and power was restored at 7:29 a.m. The cause of the outage has not yet been determined.

Delays along the Red Line will continue through the rush hour because trains are backed up and there are large crowds of customers in the stations.

A six-car train headed in the direction of Shady Grove with approximately 75 passengers on board was stopped in the tunnel between Dupont Circle and Woodley Park during the incident. Metro Rail Supervisors went to the train and safely escorted the passengers off the train, onto the tracks and back to the platform at Dupont Circle, where they resumed their trips.

A free shuttle bus service was established between Farragut North and Woodley Park stations to help get passengers around the incident.
