Michelle L. Pourciau sworn in as Metro Board member

Michelle L. Pourciau, Director of the District Department of Transportation (DDOT), was sworn in as the newest member of the Metro Board of Directors today.

Pourciau has more than 20 years of transportation experience in the region, including tenure with the District Department of Public Works and six years as Deputy Director of DDOT.

“This is an exciting day for me and it will be an honor to extend my public service by serving on Metro’s board,” said Pourciau. “I look forward to becoming an integral part of one of the world’s finest public transportation systems—and to helping improve it even further.”

Throughout her transportation career, Pourciau has managed transportation planning and policy on local, regional and national issues. She successfully negotiated the Georgetown Project agreement, facilitated the Mayor’s Downtown Congestion Management Task Force and serves as second vice-chair of the National Capital Region Transportation Planning Board. Pourciau is a member of the Board of the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) and the Northeast Association of Transportation Officials (NASTO).

Pourciau has a master’s degree from Howard University’s School of City and Regional Planning and a bachelor’s degree from the University of Michigan. She also completed the Executive Training Program at Harvard University’s John F. Kennedy School of Government.

Pourciau is filling the slot on the Metro Board that was vacated when Dan Tangherlini was appointed from the Board to serve as Metro’s Interim General Manager in February.
