No Weekend Track Rehabilitation Work in December

There will be no more scheduled weekend delays in the Metrorail system through the remainder of the year. Metro officials are not scheduling weekend track rehabilitation in December. The only schedule change in December will be on the Green Line, where trains will share one track between the Greenbelt and College Park-U of Md Metrorail stations for the testing of new rail cars during the weekends.

Throughout the year Metro has been conducting weekend major track rehabilitation on all rail lines.

“Our track maintenance employees have been working every weekend since the middle of April, and we want to make sure they have time to rest and to spend time with their loved ones during the holiday season,” said Steven Feil, Metro’s Chief Operating Officer for Metrorail

“We would also like to thank our customers for their patience as we continue to upgrade the Metrorail system,” said Mr. Feil. “We know track work on the weekends can be an inconvenience, however this work is necessary to ensure the safe operation of the Metrorail system now, and into the future.”

Metro will continue to conduct preventive track maintenance during the overnight hours when the system is closed. Repair personnel are always available if any emergency repairs are needed in the system.
