Metro Awards Contract for Five Parking Garages to Undergo Rehabilitation

Today, the Metro Board of Directors authorized $17 million in funding for a multi-year contract to rehabilitate five parking garages: Prince George’s Plaza, Shady Grove (South), Glenmont, Huntington (North), and Franconia-Springfield (West).

All concrete structures are subject to deterioration over time due to normal usage and weather. Depending on the type of structure, rehabilitation is usually needed every seven to 10 years. These five parking garages have exceeded the 10 year-limit. The repairs required for these five garages include structural, drainage, and stairwell upgrades, as well as repaving.

Funding for this contract is provided in the Capital Improvement Program Fiscal 2207 through 2011.
