Metrorail, MetroAccess extend hours on New Year’s Eve until 2 a.m.


Individuals planning to pay respects to Gerald Ford should take Metro

Anyone celebrating on New Year’s Eve can stay out a little longer that night as Metrorail will extend its hours from midnight to 2 a.m. on Sunday, Dec. 31. MetroAccess will provide service until 2 a.m. as well.

Metrorail trains will operate between midnight and 2 a.m. on all lines. Red Line trains will operate every 15 minutes from the ends of the rail lines, and approximately every 20 minutes on the Blue, Orange, Yellow and Green lines.

Metrobus will operate on its normal Sunday schedule on Dec. 31. Some bus lines will normally operate past midnight. Metro encourages bus passengers to consult a timetable, visit Metro’s Web site at www.metroopensdoors.com or call (202) 637-7000.

For individuals going to the U.S. Capitol over the weekend to pay respects to former President Gerald Ford, the closest Metrorail stations are Capitol South on the Blue and Orange lines, Union Station on the Red Line, and L’Enfant Plaza on the Green and Yellow lines. President Ford’s body will lie in state in the U.S. Capitol Rotunda from Saturday, Dec. 30 until Tuesday, Jan. 2. Metrorail hours are:

Saturday, Dec. 30: 7 a.m. to 3 a.m.
Sunday, Dec. 31: 7 a.m. to 2 a.m.
Monday, Jan. 1: 7 a.m. to midnight (holiday service)
Tuesday, Jan. 2: 5 a.m. to midnight.

Please note that some Metrobus routes may be detoured due to street closures associated with the events surrounding President Ford’s state funeral.
