Man struck by train on Red Line


Trains sharing a track between Cleveland Park and Friendship Heights

A man was struck by a Metro train at the Van Ness station on the Red Line after witnesses reported that he intentionally placed himself on the tracks.

A six-car Red Line train headed toward Shady Grove was pulling into the station around 12:30 p.m. when witnesses report the man intentionally placed himself on the tracks.

Emergency crews responded to the scene and removed the man from underneath the first rail car of the train. The man was transported to a local hospital.

Trains are sharing a single track between Cleveland Park and Friendship Heights station. Red Line riders should expect delays into the afternoon while police and other Metro personnel investigate the incident.
