Normal service resumes on Red Line

Man struck by train at Van Ness-UDC Metrorail Station

Normal service has been restored on Metrorail’s Red Line as of 2:20 p.m. However customers can expect residual delays.

Trains were sharing a single track between the Cleveland Park and Friendship Heights Metrorail stations between 12:30 and 2:20 p.m. after a man was struck by a train at the Van Ness-UDC Metrorail station.

A six-car Red Line train headed toward Shady Grove was pulling into the station around 12:30 p.m. when witnesses report the man intentionally placed himself on the tracks.

Emergency crews responded to the scene and removed the man from underneath the first rail car of the train. The man was transported alive to a local hospital.
