Track maintenance to affect Metro's Red and Orange lines this weekend

Red and Orange Line riders should add 30 minutes of time this weekend

Track maintenance on the Red and Orange Line this weekend will cause inbound and outbound trains to take turns sharing one track. Customers should add 30 minutes of time to their trips.

Red Line Track Maintenance

Metrorail customers traveling between the Medical Center and Friendship Heights Metrorail stations should add at least 30 minutes of travel time for their trips because Metro will make tunnel repairs, and replace rail and rail fasteners that stabilize the tracks. Trains will share one track between these locations from 10 p.m., Friday, August 7, to closing (midnight), on Sunday, August 9.

On Saturday, August 8, and Sunday, August 9, from 7 a.m. to 9:30 p.m., every other Red Line train traveling towards the Shady Grove Metrorail station will terminate at the Friendship Heights Metrorail station and return to the Glenmont Metrorail station. Throughout the weekend, all Red Line trains will operate every 20 minutes between the Shady Grove and Medical Center Metrorail stations.

Orange Line Track Maintenance

Metrorail customers traveling between the Vienna/Fairfax-GMU and West Falls Church-VT/UVA Metrorail stations should add 30 minutes to their travel time because Metro will replace crossties, which support the tracks. Trains will share one track between these locations from 8 p.m., Friday, August 7, to closing (midnight) on Sunday, August 9.

On Saturday, August 8, and Sunday, August 9, every other Orange Line train traveling toward the Vienna/Fairfax-GMU Metrorail station will terminate at the West Falls Church-VT/UVA Metrorail station and return to the New Carrollton Metrorail station.
