Metro announces Red Line track circuit repair schedule between the Fort Totten and Takoma Metrorail stations

Late-night single tracking and two weekend closures planned for this month

En Español

Starting tonight and throughout August, Red Line trains will share one track starting at 9:30 p.m. every night between the Fort Totten and Takoma Metrorail stations while Metro replaces the track circuits in that area. The Red Line at Fort Totten will be closed on the weekends of August 14 to 16, and August 21 to 23. Green Line train service will be available through Fort Totten.

Each night starting at 9:30 p.m., and over two weekends in August, Metro will replace the track circuit components between the Fort Totten and Takoma Metrorail stations on the Red Line. This includes replacing all track circuit components, including cables, impedance bonds, modules and junction boxes. There will be anywhere from up to 50 people working on this project each day.

Riders should continue to expect the same delays that they have been experiencing on the Red Line since the June 22 accident took place.

On the weekends where there will be no Red Line trains serving the Fort Totten Metrorail station, Red Line service will operate between the Shady Grove and Brookland-CUA Metrorail stations and between the Glenmont and Takoma Metrorail stations from 9:30 p.m. Friday, August 14, to closing (midnight) on Sunday, August 16, and from 9:30 p.m. Friday, August 21, to closing (midnight) on Sunday, August 23. Free shuttle buses will take Red Line riders between Brookland-CUA, Fort Totten and the Takoma Metrorail stations.

The Green Line at the Fort Totten Metrorail station will not be affected by this maintenance work.

The Trip Planner, located on Metro's Web site, will not reflect the impact of this track work on its schedules. Customers should allow more time for their trips because of this work. For more information on traveling by Metrobus or Metrorail, call (202) 637-7000 or TTY (202) 638-3780.
