Cracked rail on Red Line repaired
Trains are operating at normal speeds
Metro officials have temporarily repaired a cracked rail on the Red Line between the Friendship Heights and Bethesda Metrorail stations.
The cracked rail was discovered on the out-bound track at 1:10 p.m. by a track inspector. Trains took turns sharing one track (single-tracking) between Grosvenor and Friendship Heights Metrorail stations until 4:03 p.m., when crews finished making temporary repairs.
Permanent repairs will be made this evening when the rail system is closed.
