Track circuit repairs, track maintenance to affect Red, Blue, Orange, Yellow lines this weekend

Red, Blue and Orange line riders should add 30 minutes of time this weekend

Track circuit repairs on the Red Line and track maintenance on the Red, Blue, Orange and Yellow lines this weekend will cause inbound and outbound trains to take turns sharing one track. Customers should add at least 30 minutes of time to their trips.

Red Line Track Circuit Repairs

This weekend, there will be no Red Line trains serving the Fort Totten Metrorail station. Due to track circuit repairs, Red Line trains will operate between the Shady Grove and Brookland-CUA Metrorail stations and between the Glenmont and Takoma Metrorail stations from 9:30 p.m. Friday, August 21, to closing (midnight) on Sunday, August 23. Free shuttle buses will take Red Line riders between the Brookland-CUA, Fort Totten and Takoma Metrorail stations or free non-stop shuttle buses will run from Takoma to Union Station on Saturday and Sunday from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Riders also may want to consider using Metrobus to avoid the delays. Metrobus service from Silver Spring includes routes S2 and S4 to Federal Triangle or route 70 to Archives/Navy Memorial. Metrobus service from Fort Totten includes route 80 to Metro Center and route 64 to Federal Triangle. Metrobus service from Brookland includes the route 80 or G8 to Metro Center. Metrobus service from Takoma includes the route 52 or 54 to L’Enfant Plaza or the route 62 to Metro Center.

Blue and Orange Line Track Maintenance

Metrorail customers traveling between the Eastern Market and Stadium-Armory Metrorail stations should add at least 30 minutes of travel time for their trips because Metro will conduct bridge maintenance on the aerial structure outside the Stadium-Armory Metrorail station. Trains will share one track between these locations from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., on Saturday, August 22, and from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Sunday, August 23.

Blue and Yellow Line Track Maintenance

Blue and Yellow line riders should build 45 minutes to their travel times as Metro conducts preparatory work for a major track rehabilitation project at the Pentagon City Metrorail station from 9:30 p.m. to closing (midnight) Sunday, August 23, to Thursday, August 27.

Yellow Line trains will operate once every 36 minutes between the Fort Totten and Huntington Metrorail stations, and will share one track between the Braddock Road and L’Enfant Plaza Metrorail stations.

The Blue Line will operate in two segments, between the Largo Town Center and Rosslyn Metrorail stations every 20 minutes, and between the Franconia-Springfield and King Street Metrorail stations. There will be no Blue Line service between the Rosslyn and King Street Metrorail stations. A special Blue Line shuttle train will operate between Franconia-Springfield and King Street Metrorail stations to connect riders to the Yellow Line. The Arlington Cemetery Metrorail station closes at 10 p.m. during the spring and summer.

Metrobus will operate free shuttle bus service between the Rosslyn and Pentagon Metrorail stations.
